Hello! My name is Janine Christensen and I am thrilled to be your teacher this year! I cannot wait to meet you all. Let?s begin a new adventure together as you learn and accomplish great things. I have very high expectations and I know that with hard work, effort, and willingness, you can ALL be successful. I am glad to be in your corner this year and help you on your journey to greatness. For me, teaching sixth grade has been a blast. I taught in Grantsville for four years, Stansbury Park for three years and have been at Scholar Academy since 2015. I have never been so proud to be a part of a learning community before Scholar! "Achieving excellence together"! It is critical that you all have a supportive team working with you all year long, so I like to stay in close communication with you and your family. Please make sure you are familiar with the class website as you will find many, many useful resources for you and your family to use.

My name is Kelsie Glad and I am very eager and excited to be working at Scholar Academy. This is my first year a Scholar Academy, but my fifth year teaching. I enjoy working with children and helping them reach their dreams through education. I have always wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I firmly believe that every child should be given the opportunity to learn and that when given the proper structure and time, any child can succeed. An education should empower a child and help him or her make a positive contribution to our world. I was born and raised in Montana, where I lived on a small farm with my parents, two sisters, and brother. I love to spend time with my family; it is one of the most important things to me. I met my husband 7 years ago and moved to Utah where we have build an adventurous life together. We have a 2 year old who is constantly keep us on our toes and are excited to welcome a new addition to our family this year. My husband and I enjoy spending time together through various activities such as playing video games, camping, shopping, and reading books. I am looking forward to the upcoming school year and simply can’t wait to meet all of the students!

Thomas Curtis
6th Grade/Spanish

My name is Thomas C. Curtis and I am a Spanish teacher. My wife and I moved out to Tooele eight years ago and have grown to love the area. I have been teaching now for twelve years teaching a variety of children from Kindergarten up to 9th. Over those years, I have become an apt and capable teacher who uses both technology and skill to teach and encourage students to further their knowledge in the Spanish language. I have taught beginners, moderate learners, as well as natives and been able to further their Spanish ability by teaching them carefully construed lessons.

My first year teaching I worked as an intern; it was an experience that I shall never forget. I was welcomed into a classroom and was told that I had 256 kids to whom I needed to teach Spanish. That was followed by nine years working at a Public Charter School where the focus of the school was on education, the specials (P.E., Music, and Foreign Language), and a pride in excellence. It is also a school where traditional American values are taught and promoted with daily lessons and teachings. For the past two years, I had the opportunity of teaching fifth grade here at Scholar Academy. Every year, every experience, is making me into a better teacher.

Honestly, I feel that I have grown into a capable, well rounded teacher who has reasonable control of his classroom. This growth has come from a variety of different sources; I have learned from personal experience, specialized trainings, colleagues, and advice from parents and staff how to handle a multiplicity of different situations in a plethora of different methods.

Lastly, I love teaching. If the teacher does not enjoy being there in the classroom, the students won’t either. A love of something is the best way to teach. I learned that this next year, your new charter will be opening. I also saw, by looking at the daily schedule, that Spanish will be taught daily from fourth grade on. I know that I can be a great asset to your school; I know how to teach; and I know how to work hard to meet a goal.
