Hello! My name is Kara Larsen and I love being part of the scholar team! This is my second year here and I look forward to filling my new position as the school’s behavior specialist. Prior to joining the Scholar team, I worked as a qualified intellectual disability professional in West Jordan for 20 years. My heart has a special love for those with disabilities and working with them brings me joy! I am currently attending GCU working towards my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and special education. I am so grateful for all that I am learning that adds to my experience! I am a people lover but especially love to be around children. Seeing the world through their eyes brings so much wonder and innocents. I am a lover of vision boards, Chakra and breathing exercises, journaling, and nature. I am a firm believer that it is important to be in touch with our feelings as it allows us to enjoy life and experience things in their entirety. I have Tourette Syndrome and served as the Utah chapter chair from 2012-2016. I have been happily married for 11 years and we have a 3-year-old little girl and two dogs who keep us on the go! I love smiley faces, yellow and all things happy! I love to bake and ran a bakery from my home for several years, now just enjoying it for fun! I look forward to working with you and your kids this year!

Sarah Johnson
Special Edu Teacher

My name is Sarah Johnson, and I am excited to start teaching here at Scholar! After a few years as a paraprofessional, I decided to return to school and get a degree in education. I graduated from Western Governor’s University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary and Special Education. While I was working on my degree, I had the opportunity to learn about Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and work with children doing in home therapy. This was the beginning if something that became important to me as an educator. It was another way to teach sometimes overlooked skills to the students who needed it most. When I was a student teacher, I was able to apply many approaches that I learned about during my education. As I have worked with students at all levels, I see how much intelligence they possess, and what potential they have in furthering their education. I have met some amazing kids I will never forget. I am married and have 3 children. My oldest has graduated high school and my youngest is going into 7th grade. I enjoy hobbies like cooking with my daughter, scrapbooking, going on trips all over Utah with my family, and reading. We have lived in the Tooele area for 7 years, and I grew up mostly in Salt Lake.
