Cila Vega
K-5 Spanish
Email | Supply List

¡Hola querida comunidad de Scholar! My name is Cila Vega but I am better known as Sra. Vega. This is my sixth year working at Scholar Academy in the Spanish Department. During all these years I have been amazed at the hard work and potential of Scholar students and I am eager to start this new scholar year and see what it brings.
Now let me tell you some things about myself. I am from Mexico City, one of the biggest cities in the world. I never contemplated leaving my country, but seventeen years ago my life changed forever. My husband was hired by a company in the USA. We put our city style life on hold and moved to the small town of Jackson, Alabama. Two years later we moved again to Atlanta, Georgia and some years later we landed in Stansbury Park. We have been living there for fourteen years and we love it.
I have two daughters, 16 and 19, and one dog. Funny story all of them are bilingual, even the dog!
I have a passion for books, I am always reading, I love cooking, hiking and spending time with my family and friends.
I have a bachelor's degree in Science with a major in Food Technology. I worked in Mexico in this field for ten years as Technical Adviser. Currently I am working on my APT certification and I have eleven years of experience in education.
All of these years out of my country have taught me the importance of being respectful of other cultures and to praise them, at the end of the day we are more alike than different.
I am so honored to be part of the Scholar Faculty team this year and I am looking forward to making the Spanish learning process fun and engaging. Let's work together for a great scholar year!

Mandy Bush
Librarian
Email | Supply List

Hi! My name is Mandy Bush and I am so excited to be the librarian here at Scholar Academy! I was born in Utah but moved away when I was six. My family and I moved around quite a bit and I have lived in Utah, Nevada, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Wisconsin, Colorado, and Idaho. Whenever we moved, one of the first things my mom did was take us to the local library and get us a library card. I have always loved libraries and books. They are my happy place. I consider myself a voracious reader and reading is generally my go to activity. I never leave home without a book (or two or three).
I received my associates degree from Ricks College (before it was BYU-Idaho) majoring in Animal Science. While attending college, I met my husband Jake and we have been married for 18 years. We have two adopted sons, both of whom attend Scholar Academy. I have a big love for open adoption. I love to talk adoption and share their unique stories. We have lived in Tooele for the past 6 years after moving here from Idaho Falls, Idaho. While living there, I worked as a librarian tech for the City of Idaho Falls Public Library. I have always thought that being a librarian would be the perfect job, and I was right!
I really look forward to getting to know and work with all the students here. I hope to help the children build their own love of books and reading. I like the saying, reading is for awesome people and these are some awesome kids!

Amanda McCoy
K-5 Physical Ed
Email | Supply List

My name is Amanda, but for those that know me, I go by Mandy. Originally from Arizona, I attended Brigham Young University where I met and married my husband, James. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science with an emphasis on Exercise Science, we started our family and moved all around Utah, Idaho, and back to Utah again when we finally settled in Stansbury Park in 2014. In order to keep myself busy, my mind active, and be closer to my 2 kids, I would often volunteer in their classes. This led to my son’s teacher asking me to become an aide for her kindergarten class. I have been a paraprofessional for the last 2 years, have worked with 4 different kindergarten teachers, and have absolutely loved the opportunity to teach and watch my students learn and grow. I am excited to work with the 5th graders as well as utilize my college education and passion in running the elementary PE program this year.
