Financial Oversight


The Governing Board oversees the financial health of the school. All budgets are reviewed regularly and approved by the Governing Board. Budgets are published on the Utah Public Finance Website and monthly reports are available upon request to the Director.

In accordance with Utah Code Ann. Section 53G-7-309, the governing board receives a budget report each month. This budget report includes the following information: (i) the amounts of all budget appropriations; (ii) the disbursements from the appropriations as of the date of the report; and (iii) the percentage of the disbursements as of the date of the report. The current budget report is available for public review and previous reports are available by request to Mrs Gailey.

Stakeholders of Scholar Academy may report concerns of fraud, waste, abuse, or non-compliance directly to the School's administration or board. Alternatively, stakeholders may report such concerns directly to the Utah State Board of Education through their Public Education Hotline at (801) 538-7813. Trust Land Committee


The Scholar Board serves as the Trust Land Committee.

The 2019/2020 Trust Land Budget approval will be held on March 26th.

Board Openings


Scholar Academy is accepting applications from individuals who are interested in providing volunteer service as a member of the Board of Directors. The school maintains a list of individuals who have expressed a willingness to serve and will refer to this list when seeking to fill vacancies. If you would like to be considered for a position on the board, please submit a cover letter and resume to Krystal Taylor at krystal@academicawest.com.

Candidates must:

  1. Understand and support the charter of Scholar Academy (available online or at the front office);
  2. Understand the importance of team leadership;
  3. Understand and accept the governance roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors and of individual board members; and
  4. Be able to attend meetings and fulfill all responsibilities associated with the position.

As a condition of board membership, the successful applicant must pass a criminal history background check as required by law.

Preference may be given to individuals who have a background in public charter school administration/education, finance, law, or governance.

The Board of Directors will screen applications, conduct interviews, and appoint new members.

Note: prior to interviews, the board may request a professional references. Appointment(s) to the board will be determined by a majority vote of the Board of Directors. All decisions made by the Board of Directors are final.
